The RevX Team is composed of talented, passionate educators looking to make a difference in children’s lives – ready to join the adventure?

RevX's founding team, Jenn Charlot, Alexa Sorden, and Saskia Op den Bosch.

The RevX Story

For us, school, the place where we spent most of our time as growing young people, left us demoralized, doubting ourselves, developing skills that only prepared us for the basics, and seeking real learning elsewhere.

We came together with our communities and partners to imagine a world where — as early as kindergarten — learning felt invigorating and purposeful. A place that would prepare us to make BIG dreams a reality and make the world a better place. A place where we didn’t have to think small, a place that would help us change the trajectory of our lives.

Out of this collaboration came RevX, a learning experience where everyone feels alive and where K-5 learners can lead lives of purpose and influence, today and tomorrow!

What is one change you want to see in the world?
I want to see a shift in the way educators, families and administration perceive children- kids need to be seen as the knowledgeable, creative, and innovative minds that they are.

What are 3 fun facts about you?
I love dogs! If I could, I’d have 10, no kidding.
2) I don’t think a meal is complete without something spicy to eat.
3) I love reading mysteries!

Why do you believe in RevX?
I believe in RevX because the model places them truly at the head of their learning- the facilitators truly act as guides while the children are the ones in charge.

What is one change you want to see in the world?
A change I want to see in the world is acceptance. Being able to accept others for who they are regardless of anything and everything. We all have a right to be our own person and embrace our uniqueness.

What are 3 fun facts about you?
1) I love dancing and will dance to anything.
2) I am a plant mom.
3) I love to travel but don’t like the process of it e.g. getting there and leaving.

Why do you believe in RevX?
I believe in Rev-X because it allows the children to engage in real life work that affects their communities. They can actually work to make a difference. They are working through a real life experience and having fun while doing it. I also believe that these experiences will truly create changemakers and they will carry on in this world wanting to create change.

What is one change you want to see in the world?
I would love for us to see our humanity as inextricably linked, meaning we don’t only do things that benefit ourselves, we do things that benefit all.

What are 3 fun facts about you?
1) I am learning how to surf
2) My favorite times in my life are always at family gatherings and dancing!
3) All the spices in my cabinet face forward so the labels can be seen clearly

Why do you believe in RevX?
I believe that we learn most, when we are truly living. By living, I mean that we are actively engaged in doing purposeful things, pursuing a passion, and being in community with others. When we are deeply living and learning, we can transform ourselves. But so much of our lives are spent in school, not truly doing anything meaningful

I want all children to be in a school community that encourages them to be global citizens. Every child has the power to bring positivity and change to their world.

What are 3 fun facts about you?
1) I enjoy hiking and picnicking with scenic views.
2) I’ve set a goal to travel to an important landmark in each state. So far I’ve seen 11!
3) I love spending time with my family and friends.

Why do you believe in RevX?
I believe in RevX because it prepares students to be lifelong learners, guiding them to develop critical and problem-solving skills. This will help in preparation for their future as leaders and changemakers.

What is one change you want to see in the world?
I believe so much of what holds us back is individualism, competition, and predetermined one-size-fits-all definitions of success and happiness. Because of this, we end up conforming just to feel that our place in the world is secured and this sacrifice creates deep hurt and unease. So, I want a world in which we each have the space and support to claim our right to be here, to be free, to be joyous because I deeply believe when we individually heal, we heal the world.

What are 3 fun facts about you?
1) My typing speed is 79 words per minute [compared to the average 40 WPM!]
2) My first and longest tenure job was at a coffee shop in my neighborhood. I started at 12 years old bussing tables and officially stopped working during college breaks at age 20 as a barista.
3) I always choose my nail polish color by how much the name makes me smile (e.g., my current Fall favorite, “Espresso Yourself”)

Why do you believe in RevX? We co-created the vision for RevX grounding in what we first heard from families and learners about the purpose of school and their desires for the future. Still, I don’t think I could have imagined the magic that has happened even at this early stage. I believe in RevX, because I’ve seen first-hand how our community-driven approach creates freedom and ignites passion for both educators and learners.

What is one change you want to see in the world?
Not to sound too much like a wanna be Bill Nye the Science Guy, but Science rules! i would love to see every learner in every school in our country have exposure to hands on science experiences, starting in Kindergarten! Science gives us such an understanding of the world and gives us tools for creating effective solutions to the worlds greatest challenges. It is often a learners zip code that determines their access to quality Science materials and curriculum. I would love to see our country and education system place significant value and resources into providing quality STEM education in historically marginalized communities.

What are 3 fun facts about you?
1) I am left handed, and very proud of it!
2) I am a huge Harry Potter fan.
3) I love music and send people songs on Spotify as a form of love. I also play piano and love to sing – especially while I am teaching Science 😉

Why do you believe in RevX?
I believe in Rev X because of the way I have seen it bring joy and spirit to the students I have worked with. I was very lucky to get to be a part of two very different modules piloting the model. The first in North Carolina, and the second in Orlando Florida. Throughout both of those experiences I got to walk alongside students, stepping outside of the traditional classroom setting as their facilitator in RevX. In both of those unique experiences I saw learners grow, and struggle, and overcome their challenges alongside their friends. I saw learners reignite their curiosity in school and learning. I saw learners drooling at the thought of doing something in school that THEY actually chose to do!I left each module feeling so inspired by the personal growth I saw in each learner throughout our time together. There was not only academic growth, but growth in other critical skills like empathy, personal accountability, goal setting, public speaking, interviewing, data collection, interpersonal skills, and the list goes on.Designing and facilitating modules for RevX has been so inspiring and freeing for me as an educator, and I hope many other educators and learners get a chance to have RevX in their schools.

What are 3 fun facts about you?
1) I am an Army reservist
2) I am addicted to self improvement books
3) I love to walk

The vision for an edutopia to improve teaching and learning for the greatest good is powerful. As a woman of color, I am excited to create an instructional model that gets young people excited about learning.

What is one change you want to see in the world?
As the great-great-grandson of Mississippi sharecroppers, a first-generation college student, and a practitioner of love and liberation, I have always imagined a world in which educational equity is a lived experience for all children, especially children of color and, more specifically, Black children from under-resourced and historically marginalized communities. Kids spend nearly 50% of the time that they are awake within a school building. My experience as a student, a teacher, an administrator, and now a parent is the catalyst for a deep motivation to help ensure that time spent in school is meaningful, fulfilling, joyful, and purposeful for the life that extends beyond high school graduation.

What are 3 fun facts about you?
1) My mother is one of 16 children, so I have hundreds of cousins. Someday I’ll take the time to count them all and know the exact number.
2) In college, I traveled nationally and internationally to perform in over 20 Step Show Competitions with my fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi. During my junior year, we were participants in MTV2’s nationally broadcasted Sprite Step Off.
3) I LOVE playing games! Not metaphorically petty games, but actually games. I’d love to participate in an escape room tournament, play golf in all 50 states, and be a contestant on Family Feud in the next five years.

Why do you believe in RevX?
In the RevX model, all learning is centered on a relevant cause that children care deeply about. RevX operates with a framework anchored in project-based learning, which benefits student preparation for standardized tests (in the short term) and is deeply aligned with the needs of the society’s 21st-century social-emotional, and intellectual expectations (in the long term). Furthermore, because learning is centered on a relevant cause, children build a Change Maker mentality that increases their confidence and skill to change the world into a place of peace, love, and liberation.

When you are a RevX facilitator, you are an educator, yes, but you’re also a designer, engineer, artist, changemaker, researcher, and reflective being elevating minds, spirits, and the community!

We are looking for creative and passionate people who want to feel like they are creating a lifestyle of learning.
